Icebird Mix Review
Icebird is the duo of RJD2 and Aaron Livingston. Taking the best of Gnarls Barkley and adding the flavors of contemporaries like TV On Radio and The Roots—Icebird is so soulfully warm they don’t have to fly south to stay hot. On their ‘Best of 2011’ you get the best of duo’s styles—psychedelic rock and soul with edgy hip hop and R&B. This mix is meant for the fans of the familiar, but also want something new. Midway through, RJD2 cues a refined Yo-Yo Ma track that’s followed by The Mean’s “Dragon Blues,” a gritty blues selection that reflects Livingston’s own vocal styles. But like any music aficionado the pace picks up with a familiar diddy by Drake—and bam you’re on one.
